P*Starr
From Monday March 3rd onwards, band of the week on Tameside Radio's Local Music Spotlight feature are P*Starr. As self-proclaimed pioneers of 'Northern Funk', P*Starr create a sound that encompasses the feel and traditional values of funk, combined with solid groove and British and American riff heavy rock influences, creating a driven, grounded, working-class slab of dance inducing, energising, beat heavy sound as addictive as it is absorbing. The current line-up, made up of Martin Mcdermott (lead vocals), Mick Kiernan (guitar), Neil Schofield (bass), Jordan Chadwick (drums) and Anthony Nicholl (guitar) formed in 2020, and have been consistently creating and performing the thickest, filthiest grooves around the music scene ever since, making waves at music venues and festivals wherever they play. Influences come from the likes of James Brown, Stevie wonder, Nile Rodgers, Maceo Parker, Jamiroquai, Thin Lizzy, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and AC/DC who have all had an impact on the bands creative process and energetic performance style. P*Starr are currently working on a new album which will be released later this year. Singles released so far include 'Walking In Your Sleep', 'If you want it' 'Better man' and 'Don’t matter to me'. The band will also be performing at many gigs and festivals throughout summer, more information can be found on all usual social media platforms.
