Sad Films
From Monday 14th October onwards, 'Sad Films' is the artist of the week on Tameside Radio's Local Music Spotlight feature. Sad films is the alter-ego of Salford born singer-songwriter Dan Lucas, who describes himself as 'an open-secret superhero of sorts, borne out of a desire to shed the handcuffs of hibernation that modern life can have on one’s creative impulses'.
His musical influences come from the likes of R.E.M., David Bowie and Father John Misty, alongside the storytelling of John Prine, Leonard Cohen and Alex Cameron, taking listeners unapologetically into his world of playful lyrics dressed in high quality melodic fabric.
In the short time Sad Films has been active, he and his band have played sold-out shows with popular Manchester based band 'Manilla Times', as well as supporting international artists Ainakanna, who recently travelled to the UK from Japan for their Autumn 2023 tour. Singles so far include 'Plugged In' and 'Dog Day', alongside 'Exchange Pleasantries', a five track EP which was released in July, preceded by its lead single ‘Past Tense’.
Sad Films celebrated the release of the EP by playing a sold-out launch show at The Castle Hotel in Manchester. Sad Films and his music will be played on every daytime show on Tameside Radio from 6am on Monday. He also joined the team on The Dave Sweetmore Show last Monday night, 7th October, you can listen again via the OnDemand section of the website.
