Successful return for New Mills Carnival

New Mills was filled with 'superheroes' when the town's carnival made a welcome return on Saturday (11 June).

Crowds lined the street as the procession made up of numerous DC and Marvel superheroes including Superman, Captain America, Spiderman, and Batman made their way through the town.

The superhero theme also saw tribute paid to those who were on the frontline during the pandemic including doctors and nurses and those who worked on creating a vaccine. Also recognised were the RNLI and fire service.

The celebrations saw a great response from the local community, with all the local schools and a number of nurseries taking part in the colourful event.

They were joined by various organisations and local businesses, visiting carnival royalty, and a number of bands.

The procession made its way down Market Street and Union Road, then turned onto Albion Road, and finally Wirksmoor Road where events including a fun fair and entertainment continued on Newtown Recreation Ground.

Organisers were delighted with the response to the event and the support of all those who took part in the parade.

They also recognised the efforts of all the volunteers who put in a lot of time and effort to plan the event and help on the day.

“Even though they’re not in the spotlight, they are the backbone of each and every event. Please know that we could not do this without their hard work.”
