A group in Glossop is helping people young and old to break down generational barriers and tackle social isolation and loneliness.
Be Well CIC's Parent and Child Intergenerational Group gives the opportunity for residents of local care and residential homes to mix with parents and children and reminisce, chat, make new friends and even share a cuddle.
People of all ages are welcome at the sessions, where there is a very relaxed environment with lots of chatting and playing. There are lots of toys too, which have been kindly donated by members of the public and Jo Gregory at the Hummingbird Hub.
There are also regular volunteer sessions from Glossop Music Junction, playing music and getting everyone involved.
The sessions are already proving busy and popular
The group meets on Mondays at 10am to 11.30am at Pennine Care Centre on Turnlee Road, on Tuesdays from 10.30am to midday at Whitfield House on Charlestown Road, and Wednesdays from 10am to 11.30am at Cornmill House on King Edward Avenue.
The sessions are £2 per child and 50p for refreshments.
They are already proving popular. Thelma, an 89-year-old resident at Cornmill House, said: "It’s the best day and the highlight of my week, every week. I just love seeing the little ones and cuddling them, it really does make me smile."
Our photographer Nigel Wood went to last Wednesday's session at Cornmill House. Browse through our gallery here...
