Whitfield school pupils enjoy workshop at Mettrick's Butchers

A group of pupils from Whitfield St James' CE Primary School made sausages and pork pies when paying a visit to Mettrick's Butchers in Glossop.

They enjoyed their trip to the High Street West shop last Thursday afternoon (9 March) for a special workshop to celebrate both National Butchers Week and British Pie Week.

John Mettrick said: "We've been very pleased to have the children from St James' Primary School here for National Butchers Week to learn about making sausages and pork pies.

"We think that it's very important for young people to learn what's in the meat and where it comes from. Of course, that's our speciality because we source from local farms all over the area - into Yorkshire for turkey, we get lambs from Bakewell, we've got beef coming from Chatsworth, we've got pork coming from Burton-on-Trent - so we're all about local supply."

One of the most popular events in the butchery calendar, National Butchers Week highlights the great work being done by butchers from around the UK that sets them apart from the competition.

Meanwhile, British Pie Week celebrates everything tasty about pies and commemorates the unique food.
