Youngsters in Glossopdale mark St George's Day 2023

St George's Day was marked by scouts from across Glossopdale on Sunday with a short parade and service at St Mary's Church.

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were joined by leaders and their parents at the annual event.

The service was led by Father Martin Sylvester.

Andrew Wilson, District Commissioner, said: “It went very well. We had a small parade from St Philip Howard School to St Mary’s Church.”

He explained increased restrictions around parades, including the need for road closures, are the reason the St George's Day parade no longer goes through the centre of Glossop.

St George was chosen as the patron saint of Scouts as he sets a good example of faith, courage and perseverance. For Scouts, it’s a very special day when everyone can come together, make or renew their Promise and celebrate.

The Glossop District is made up of scout groups from Dinting, Glossop, Hadfield and Longdendale and are always looking for new leaders and helpers.
