Denton's Christmas Weekend

Denton staged a special two day festive treat at the weekend to celebrate the town's Christmas lights switch-on.

Taking place in the Civic Square, the traditional switch-on was held on Saturday, with a great selection of stalls and children's funfair rides on the day to enjoy.

Children could take along their letters to Santa and pop them into a Christmas postbox with everyone guaranteed a reply, before meeting the big man himself before the switch-on.

While on Sunday, Santa returned to host a very special Christmas party in the Civic Square where he was joined by surprise guests including Batman, Captain America and one of the First Order Stormtroopers from Star Wars.

Denton North East councillor, Denise Ward, had been a driving force behind staging the extravaganza, supported by council colleagues and a small army of volunteers.

"It's been a year in the planning and for me it's all about the community. It's going to be a very tough Christmas for people this year and if we can bring a little smile and Christmas cheer - then that's great," she said.

She thanked everyone for their support in helping to stage the event and all who came out to enjoy the spectacle.
