Droylsden Academy pupils in Bake Off contest

Droylsden Academy students have been cooking up a storm again - this time in a Bake Off contest.

Following a round of competitions held at the Academy, the grand final was held at Tameside College's Tameside One campus.

The three finalists Emily Finerty, Year 7, Macey Ellison, Year 9 and Anya Raue-Lewis, Year 7, went head to head for the honour of scooping the title of Bake Off Champion 2023.

Emily created chicken and mushroom pie with new potatoes and chicken gravy, Macey cooked meat and potato pie, with twice cooked chips and gravy, and Anya  made rhubarb lattice pie with crème anglaise.

Ultimately Anya’s dish wowed the judges and won the day and she was crowned champion.

The judges were Ray Jones - Chef Lecturer (Tameside One), Stuart Freidrich (Owner of Brambles Bakery in Audenshaw), Nick Lowe (Event Leader, Droylsden Academy), Nassim Rivoire (Student Judge - Winner of 2022 Droylsden Academy MasterChef competition) and Tiffany Scholes (Student Judge).

During previous qualifying rounds, competitors were asked to make savoury doughnuts, ‘cake’ (students could decide what type), shortbread and cheesecake.
