Tameside has officially welcomed Christmas to the borough as residents lined the streets of Ashton for the lantern parade.

Thousands took part in the procession to light up the winter sky and experience the first taste of Christmas in Tameside.

Local businesses, groups and families joined to create their own small lanterns to release at the festive ceremony.

The event was a huge success, with so many experiencing the joy of Christmas in their home town.

Soon, the other Tameside towns will follow in bringing light amongst the dark nights.
